Abstract:During the period June - July 1974 a survey of Visual Ground Aids was conducted at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. The purpose of this survey was to identify equipment currently installed to aid in providing visual guidance to pilots in traversing various sections of the airport and to identify certain technical and maintenance-oriented characteristics associated with these installations. This survey provides the cost documentation for the improvement analysis for the visual ground aids portion of the airport surface traffic control program. From the survey it is possible to estimate that the cost of replicating the present taxiway guidance system is in excess of $2,250,000.00 with an average maintenance cost estimated at $271,000.00.
