Abstract:Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. (1912-2002) was a United States Air Force (USAF) general and commander of the World War II Tuskegee Airman. He was the first African American brigadier general in the USAF. He worked at the U.S. Department of Transportation from 1970 to 1981, serving as Director of Civil Aviation Security (1970-1971), Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Environment, Safety, and Consumer Affairs (1971-1975), and as Special Assistant to the Secretary on the 55 MPH Speed Limit (1976-1981).
