The Advancing Rural Mobility Program (ARMP) Stage 1, led by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), improved rural transit access by implementing GTFS-Flex data and launching the MiTripPlanner tool. Initially involving four agencies, the pilot expanded to 15 providers across 19 counties, enabling demand-response services to appear in trip planners. MDOT and project partners created GTFS-Flex feeds, deployed the MiTripPlanner Trip Planning Tool, and built a System Administration Portal for long-term scalability. The pilot proved GTFS-Flex’s viability in rural settings, enhanced data accessibility, and strengthened agency capacity, setting the stage for statewide expansion in Stage 2.
