This study's main objective was to enhance the efficiency of winter salting operations for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) through the following objectives. The first aim was to optimize the routing of salting vehicles from current facility locations to assigned road segments. The second and more pivotal objective was to identify the locations for future facilities based on “what-if” scenarios, such as the number of facilities and the composition of trucks at said facilities.
