Abstract:The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plays a leadership role in shaping and executing a National Research and Technology (R&T) program. The agency also acts as a convener; collaborations with State, industry, and academic partners provide the foundation for conducting research and developing innovations that are essential, indispensable, and connected to the needs of transportation system users. FHWA’s continuing commitment to highway research and the implementation of ground-breaking technology is changing the way roads, bridges, and other facilities are designed, built, and maintained across the country, ultimately improving the transportation system’s safety, reliability, effectiveness, sustainability. This document highlights examples of valuable FHWA research, translated into applications of ground-breaking technology that improve the transportation system’s performance – in safety, reliability, effectiveness, and sustainability.
