Abstract:This report assists public agencies in the inventorying, documenting, and configuring traffic management system (TMS) assets, and illustrates how such information can support the management of these assets. It provides information for agencies to establish and manage their TMS asset inventories. This document addresses key factors in determining which assets and resources to include in the inventory; the information to configure and document; and establishing, maintaining, and using controlled resources. It explores methods to integrate configuration management into the everyday maintenance and operation of TMS assets, as well as strategies for managing and facilitating access to the compiled data. Additionally, this report highlights the significance of documenting and configuring an inventory of TMS assets, and how this information has the potential to support other TMS activities, plans, and processes. This report may be of interest to representatives from State departments of transportation, local agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, regional authorities, toll authorities, and other groups involved in, supporting, or using a TMS asset and resource inventory.
