Abstract:The ultra-high frequency activities of the Civil Aeronautics Authority have been confined largely to the 60-66, 74.6-75.4, 93-95, 109-111, and 123-132 megacycle bands, in which most of the aeronautical frequencies are assigned. In order to carry on the development work, it was necessary to have a receiver with a continuous range to cover this spectrum. Receivers were available commercially for the low frequency end of this range, but nothing was available at the higher frequencies. With these facts in mind, the development of a continuously variable superheterodyne receiver of good sensitivity was undertaken.
