Abstract:

Leighton Christiansen, Librarian at the Iowa Department of Transportation, leads a conversation about the pressures of transportation libraries. Transportation libraries are being asked to provide instant electronic access and increase services while budgets and staffing are shrinking. Christiansen encourages transportation libraries to be agile – like a modern academic research library – to provide instant access where they can. Topics covered include building core transportation collections, downsizing physical library environments, and ways transportation libraries can emulate research libraries.
