Abstract:David Gansz, Director of the National Transportation Library, discusses how information has come to be treated as a commodity, which has had a profound impact on libraries and librarians. Gansz proposes an alternative to measuring the value of libraries via quantifiable transactions like gate counts, checkouts, clicks, and downloads. Libraries can demonstrate value through storytelling. Collecting and collating success stories transcends traditional assessment practices and provides librarians an effective method of communicating impact.
