Abstract:The team developed a calibration procedure by comparing four (4) standards, including two U.S. Standards (NIST HB44 and ASTM E1318-09), one European Standard (COST323), and one International Standard (OIML R134-1). This calibration process encompassed testing three prevalent truck types on the BQE at two GVWs (full and empty) and three speeds (post-speed, crawling speed to simulate congestion scenarios, and an average of two) to prove consistent accuracy across different trucks and traffic conditions. Following the sensor installation, the calibration procedure was executed, and the results indicated that the system met the accuracy requirements of ASTM E1318-09 Type III and COST 323 B(10), which mandated 95% compliance. However, it fell short of achieving the target accuracy for B+(7), primarily due to errors in single-axle weight, which were identified in three out of 353 runs. Furthermore, it was not feasible to meet the specified target accuracy in OIML R134-1 F(10) Verification.
