Abstract:The number of reported motor vehicle crashes decreased from the previous year to fewer than 290,000 crashes in calendar year 2010. In addition, the number of persons injured in crashes dropped below 89,000 and the number of fatalities on Illinois roadways in 2010 totaled 927, among the lowest number of traffic fatalities in a single year since 1921.
In 2011, the statewide safety belt usage rate has reached a record high of 92.9 percent. In comparison, in 2003, when the primary safety belt law was signed, the safety belt usage rate was 76.2 percent with 1,454 roadway fatalities reported that year.
