The 2022 MTS Federal Funding Handbook provides a compilation of 77 current and 22 previous federal funding programs related to MTS infrastructure. These programs span a range of federal departments and agencies with a variety of interests in the MTS and are designed to stimulate the economy and benefit the public. Funding opportunities within these programs may be provided as grants, loans, loan guarantees, or as one of several other types of financial support. The funding opportunities presented in the fifth version of the Handbook provide hundreds of millions of federal dollars to invest in the infrastructure that supports the U.S. MTS. Investments in MTS infrastructure from ports, to shipyards, to waterways help to keep the MTS at the forefront of global competitiveness. The improvements enabled by these funding programs can extend economic benefits to communities exceeding the original dollar amounts of the federal funds provided.
