The Force Projection component of our Post-Cold War National Military Strategy relies significantly upon increased airlift and sealift assets. The US Air Force C-17 Globemaster is an important enabling airlift resource now in mid-procurement. Despite its capabilities, now being demonstrated across the globe, this major system almost didn't come into being.
