Abstract:

The MUTCD Digest serves as a reference guide and resource tailored for use within FWS. The MUTCD Digest aims to provide a comprehensive overview of MUTCD protocol framed within the context of the most pertinent information for road assets and signage implementation across FWS Refuges and Hatcheries. The contents within the MUTCD Digest include general signage installation information, as well as information regarding Traffic Control Devices designed to: regulate the safe flow of traffic at Intersections; curtail Speeding Vehicles; promote safe Pedestrian Crossings; establish safe Bicycle Infrastructure and Shared Paths; inform the public via Visitor-Focused Signs; denote Parking Areas and aid in Congestion Management; provide Warning and Safety Communication to the public; demarcate Railroad Crossings; administer Acceleration and Deceleration Infrastructure, such as pavement markings for passing, merging, and turn lanes; and encourage Accessibility in Transportation to meet the needs of all visitors.
