Abstract:Approximately 80 participants from several government agencies, trad associations, consultancy, academia, and the private sector transportation industry attended this 2-day symposium on highway-related transportation productivity measures. Symposium participants took part in five plenary sessions and two breakout sessions, in which participants were divided into three groups and charged with specific tasks designed to help generate meaningful, credible transportation productivity measures. Papers presented during the plenary sessions covered the following topics: - Current issues in correctly measuring transportation productivity. - Ambient productivity trends and the measurements of transportation productivity. - Modal freight productivity issues from the air, highway, rail freight carrier, and freight shipping perspectives. - Quality and efficiency issues in measuring and improving productivity in the transportation sector. - Freight transportation productivity measures.
