To accomplish this mission, the FHWA works closely with State highway agencies, transportation associations, and private consultants throughout America. This partnership has created a network of engineers, scientists, administrators, and other technical personnel with extensive knowledge of building and maintaining viable highway systems. A wealth of highway information is produced as a result of research and advancements achieved through this partnership. The finding of this research and technological development are published in publications produced by FHWA personnel and contractors. The Publications Index is a useful guide to this collection of reports, annuals, and summaries. These publications are distributed to State and local highway agencies, highway associations, and other members of the transportation industry. Publications also are available from the FHWA, the U.S. Government Printing Office, and / or the National Technical Information Service.
