Abstract:This Participants Notebook was developed as a training and reference aid for the Traffic Signal Equipment and Software workshop. The notebook is organized to reflect the material presented in each of the two-day sessions. The workshop is designed to provide participants (traffic signal systems engineers and technicians) with information and an opportunity to discuss and operate examples of the State-of-the-Art traffic signal technology and equipment on the market today. At the completion of this workshop, the participant should have an understanding of: The role of impact of traffic control systems. The Resources and maintenance requirements for implementing and upkeeping traffic control systems. The concept of NEMA and Model 170 controller units. Controller input and output devices, i.e. detectors, time switches, time base coordinators, conflict monitors, flashers, isolators, load switches; test equipment, UPS, suppression devices, communications techniques, closed loop systems, centralized signal systems, and signal timing software. Become aware of new emerging traffic control technologies.
