Abstract:This manual presents and illustrates the South Carolina Synthetic Unit Hydrograph Method (identified as the “SC UH Method”). A key parameter is peak rate factor (PRF) that relates to UH shape and proportion of runoff volume under the rising limb. PRF varies among watersheds and land use. A table with land use specific PRF values recommended for use in South Carolina is included. This table resulted from multiple stormwater management studies that verified the SC UH Method and PRF values. At each study watershed, rainfall and streamflow data were collected and used to calibrate model parameters by adjusting UH PRF and time to peak parameters to obtain the closest match between simulated and measured hydrographs. A significant outcome of those studies, and one that upholds the purpose and intent of the SC UH Method is each watershed has its own unique PRF and thereby, its own unique UH.
