Abstract:The purpose of the symposium was to examine current practices and to consider how best to adapt those practices to link planning, operations, systems management, and travel information to obtain the most efficient use of the surface transportation system, and to accelerate the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) into standard regional and/or statewide planning procedures, processes and practices. The symposium also focused on the important linkages between regional transportation planning and operations of proposed and existing systems to enhance interagency and interjurisdictional information sharing.
