Abstract:

This is a review of whether the Department of Transportation (DOT) provides adequate comparative information to consumers on the safety record of airlines. This review was undertaken in light of recent concerns over airline safety and DOT's efforts to ensure aviation safety. While DOT issues a wide variety of data on aviation statistics, no reports are issued that give comparative information on individual airline safety.
