Abstract:For Fiscal Years 1998 through 2002, the Illinois Department of Transportation's Airport Improvement Program includes ongoing efforts to resolve the aircraft congestion problems in both the Chicago and St. Louis metropolitan areas. In addition, the program includes projects at airports throughout the state to ensure continued safe and efficient operations at these facilities as well as maximizing opportunities for economic development in Illinois. This program anticipates spending more than $630 million over five years to preserve, modernize and expand Illinois' airports with $139.8 million in improvements planned for FY 1998. The planned improvements are for 81 airports which are divided among three categories: primary, reliever and publicly owned general aviation airports in Illinois. Tables, graphs.
