Abstract:There are a number of areas that must be addressed in order to obtain the best continuous vehicle classification data possible. These issues include site selection, installation, the classification algorithm used by the classifier, the reliability of the sensors and classifier, data edit checking, knowledge of local conditions and what to do when problems arise. This paper will look at how the Wisconsin Department of Transportation addresses these issues and their experience with continuous vehicle classification data.
