This document describes the components necessary for successful Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) implementation. It features discussions on the four fundamental elements (leadership, collaboration, communication, and data collection and analysis) and the four steps for successful implementation (emphasis area action plans; linkage to existing plans; marketing; and monitoring, evaluation, and feedback). For each element and step, the document provides a list of key strategies as well as a checklist for practitioners to use to assess their implementation efforts.
