Abstract:Penn DOT decided to change its practice of using skewed joints after reviewing the results of a Long Term Pavement Performance program analysis project which showed that skewed joints don't necessarily mitigate faulting. By adopting the use of perpendicular joints instead, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation can reduce the occurrence of joint faulting and save money.
