The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADTPF) provides homes for a number of employees in remote locations around the State; as a result, the Department has a direct interest in the way energy efficient homes are constructed and the well-being of the occupants. The ventilation rates of Alaskan buildings has a high priority. The Research Section of the ADTPF purchased a portable gas chromatograph designed for determining air exchange rates by the tracer gas dilution method. By measuring air exchange in a number of Alaskan buildings under various environmental and meteorological conditions, a data base was established that could be used to determine whether any relationships existed between air exchange rates and more readily measurable variables. This report describes the air exchange measuring efforts of the Facilities Research staff over the period 1980 through 1985 and summarizes the results of the work.
Air exchange rates were measured repeatedly in seven Fairbanks buildings throughout the 1982-1983 winter. These buildings ranged from small private ho...
The data gathered from an extensive research project consisting of rolling approximately 11,250 rocks off vertical; 0.25H:1V; 0.5H:1V; 0.75H:1V; and 1...
