Abstract:The goal and focus of this proposed technology transfer project was to highlight and disseminate the results of Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education Center (STRIDE) Research Project No. 2012-051S [Peters et al., 2015], thereby making the results of that project available to the technical community and the general public. A post-workshop survey was conducted to address what information had been learned from the workshop. Such information may be of help in developing new courses related to sustainability related to transportation and environmental systems. This project developed workshop materials based on the results developed for Project No. 2012-051S, which involved the development of a graduate/advanced undergraduate course addressing “Sustainability Design and Rating Systems”; presented the results of the earlier project in a focused workshop highlighting the significant results and key points of the project course; and presented a seminar highlighting the significant points of the course and workshop. Additionally, a Final Report was developed and submitted to STRIDE at the conclusion of the project. The course developed under STRIDE Research Project No. 2012-051S, provided both transportation and environmental perspectives focusing on principles of sustainable transportation and livable streets, transportation planning and site design for sustainable transportation, transportation sustainability rating systems, brownfield/greyfield development principles, and sustainable design and ethics.
