Abstract:The Urban Mass Transportation Administration's Alternative Fuels Initiative using technology already developed by the private sector to enhance air quality by controlling emissions from transit vehicles by providing an avenue for placing alternative fueled vehicles into the mainstream of transit operation while encouraging continued private sector support, broadening UMTA's existing methanol program to include compressed natural gas (CNG), ethanol and liquefied petroleum gas (propane) and using various transit vehicles from full size transit vehicles, to small buses, vans among others is described.
