Abstract:These guidelines provide recommendations for the assessment of new and existing natural gas and liquid hydrocarbon pipelines subjected to potential ground displacements resulting from landslides and subsidence. The process of defining landslide and subsidence hazards is highly dependent upon the judgments of experienced and knowledgeable specialists in geology and geotechnical engineering. With the heavy reliance on judgment, it is not possible to identify specific processes that constitute generally acceptable approaches. Therefore, much of this document focuses on identifying the variety of available methods that can be used to define landslide and subsidence hazards for pipelines.
