Abstract:The State of Alabama is crisscrossed by some 4,728 miles rail lines hauling 93.5 million tons of cargo annually. This directory, Alabama?s first comprehensive rail directory, provides a range of information regarding railroads operating in the state, including locations, stations served, commodities handled, and local contacts. There are five Class I railroads that operate in Alabama: Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian National/Illinois Central, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern, and Norfolk Southern. In addition there are 23 Class III railroads covered. There is also a listing of railroad museums in the state.
