Abstract:The MORPC Transportation Improvement program (TIP) is a staged, multi-year schedule of regionally significant transportation improvements in the Columbus area. The Federal-aid Highway Act of 1962 and the federal Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 required that each "urbanized area," as a condition to the receipt of federal capital or operating assistance, have a continuing, cooperative and comprehensive (3-C) transportation planning process that results in plans and programs consistent with the comprehensively planned development of the "urbanized area." The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 continues these and other requirements. The Transportation Improvement Program is the culmination of this process.
