Abstract:

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) is a leader in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of transportation data. The Transportation Services Index (TSI) measures the seasonally adjusted movement of freight traffic and passenger travel, which have been weighted to yield a monthly measure of transportation services output by the for-hire transportation sector. The TSI provides the only combined, multimodal, seasonally adjusted economic measure of its kind. The data sources, methodologies, and interpretations of the TSI are continually evaluated for refinements.
