Abstract:Presented are the results of six case studies conducted on each of three bridges (the Route 80 Onramp Undercrossing, the Northwest Connector Overcrossing, and the Southwest Connector Overcrossing designed by the California Department of Transportation) when subjected to strong seismic excitation. The dynamic responses of each bridge for separate excitations in the longitudinal and transverse directions were determined using the response spectral, linear time-history, and nonlinear time-history approaches. Maximum response values are interpreted in terms of current design procedures and code provision.
