Abstract:The purpose of this report, which deals only with joint development and not with system interface projects, is to assemble and analyze possible indicators of the relative success of nine joint development projects begun under the former Urban Initiatives Program with Urban Mass Transportation Administration ( UMTA) funding assistance. The projects are located in Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Cambridge, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Miami, Philadelphia, and Santa Ana, California. Since none of the projects has yet been completed, "success" is projected in terms of the principal benefits expected to accrue to transit operators and thus to the UMTA assistance program. These benefits include induced net additional transit ridership and farebox revenues, and earmarked proceeds from the sale or lease of joint development property.
