A pooled fund project was undertaken to purchase new asphalt binder testing equipment for state
;
transportation agencies. The seven states that agreed to participate included: Connecticut,
;
Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
;
Within the region, there were two benefits with pooling resources for the equipment purchases.
;
The first was the ability to purchase multiple units of the various pieces of equipment, thereby
;
reducing the individual costs. The second was with each state transportation agency having the
;
same equipment which reduces travel costs for preventative maintenance service and the ability
;
to contact colleagues to discuss any issues they may be having.
