    The prestressed concrete element industry is interested in exploring the application of different types of matchcuring

    technologies and in using 4 x 8-in. (100 x 200-mm) cylinders to measure concrete compressive strength

    instead of the standard 6 x 12-in. (150 x 300-mm) cylinders. Application of this new technology creates potential

    for cost savings to the producer and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) as improved knowledge of

    concrete strength development allows more efficient and accurate stress release and form removal times,

    normally within 24 hours after casting. The technology associated with match-curing cylinders is somewhat new,

    and little information is available on the use of temperature-controlled chambers for match curing. This study

    explores the effects of match-curing performance specifically taking into consideration the insulated jacket mold

    and air chamber technologies, as well as the effect of cylinder size. This research effort consists of five

    objectives: (1) review of the literature, current industry practice, and available technology; (2) purchase,

    assembly, and verification of the effectiveness of match-curing technology; (3) study of the effect of system

    temperature control on match-cured (water bath) strength results; (4) study of the utility of using match-curing

    technologies (insulated jacket mold and air chamber) to estimate 1-day, in-place compressive strength; and (5)

    study of the effect of cylinder size on match-cure strength results.
