This National ITS Communication Document contains the information necessary to describe and characterize all aspects of communications within the National ITS Architecture. It presents a thorough, coherent definition of the “communication layer” of the Architecture. From a National ITS Program perspective, this encompasses two broad thrusts: 1) communication architecture definition (i.e., selection of communication service and media types to interconnect the appropriate transportation systems), and 2) several types of inter-related communication analyses to ensure the feasibility and soundness of the architectural decisions made in the definition.
