An effort was undertaken to engage an under-used technology, the TRANSIMS and the MOVES traffic models, in order to advance the utilization of this technology within the state of New York and to examine the value of carbon-footprinting as a metric for planning the highway network.
A TRANSIMS model of the NYS Capital District was constructed. Field observations were made throughout the region and used to calibrate the model. The operation of the model was demonstrated for the staff of the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC). The full TRANSIMS model has been delivered to both the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and the CDTC.
The project began work on implementing the MOVES environmental model as an extension of the TRANSIMS model but was unable to complete this task as the Principal Investigator left the team for personal reasons.
