Typical moisture-density curves : part II : lime treated soils.
The objective of the study covered by this report was to determine whether the family of curves developed for untreated soils, could be used for determining the optimum moisture and maximum density of lime treated soils. This investigation was initiated because of the extensive use of lime with plastic clays and silty clays to reduce plasticity and increase friability.
The study revealed that the family of curves developed for untreated soils is suitable for use with lime treated soils. Approximately 93% of the curves for lime “treated” soils that were checked fit the family of curves with reasonable accuracy.
