Abstract:

The study concerns the experimental use of several commercially-published aptitude tests and a determination of their validity as predictors of training-performance grades for more than 300 Marines and over 600 Naval students who entered a basic air-traffic-controller (ATC) training course. The results indicated that a composite score involving only four of the tests could be used to effectively predict performance grade and pas-fail status for the training course. The Marines were found to have been selected from relatively higher military-screening-and-classification (MSC) test score ranges than the Naval trainees and their training-course failure rate was lower.
