This monograph examines the issue of zoning as it affects parking circa 1947. Zoning has been described as the application of common sense and fairness to public regulations governing the use of private real estate. It is considered to be part of city planning, rather than an entirely separate operation, designed to promote and protect the health, safety, morals, convenience, prosperity, and general welfare of the community. It is shown by this study that the parking problem confronting urban areas can be effectively dealt with through zoning requirements. Chapters focus on practices in zoning for parking, physical requirements of parking facilities, and zoning issues related to parking and existing buildings and structures. A range of data is presented in both tabular and graphical formats.
