Abstract:This report provides a discussion of the relationship between transportation and global climate change based on peer-reviewed literature and research findings, and an overview of transportation solutions. The report is organized in four primary sections: Inventories of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Concentrations; Potential Impacts of Global Climate Change; Developments in Global Climate Change Policy; and Strategies to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions. They outline the framework for examining issues related to transportation and potential global climate change. The strategies discussed the focus predominantly on highway transportation associated with personal travel in a single occupant vehicle (SOVs). The three appendices provide information on calculating carbon dioxide emissions from fuel consumption, global climate change Internet sites, and an annotated bibliography referencing some of the major publications on the subject.
