Abstract:In its on-going pursuit of the goal of reducing alchol-related traffic crases and resulting fatalities and injuries, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has continued its program of providing Techinical Assistance Teams to the States upon request. This approach allows the States to use highway safety funds to support the Team's evaluation of existing and proposed alcohol and drug impared control efforts. Montana members of the Traffic Safety Bureau met with NHTSA team October 21 through 26, 2002. This paper presents the results of this assessment. Areas examined with recommendations made are program management, prevention, deterrence, driver licensing, and treatment and rehabilitation.
