Abstract:Commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver inattention, particularly that due to fatigue, is widely recognized as an important safety issue in the transportation industry. This tech brief summarizes an Office of Motor Carrier and Highway Safety study to investigate the potential of an eye tracking system for detecting reduced driver alertness, and to determine the impact of preventative napping on driver alertness and performance. The complete final report will be available from the National Technical Information Service. 4 p.
