This casebook attempts to present an overview of recent changes in the intercity transportation industries and to provide examples of joint public-private efforts in a non-technical manner. Chapters provide a brief overview of the recent developments in the freight and passenger railroads, intercity bus, and regional airline service transportation industries, examples of joint public-private partnership actions to maintain intercity services in rural areas and a summary of non-Federal funding sources used for intercity services, drawing together some basic themes of successful efforts.
