• Abstract:
  In 1990, the NMSHTD initiated an ambitious and long-term research project. The project was to define the process for and undertake the development of a statewide multimodal transportation forecasting model. The project commenced in April, 1991. The first activity was an intensive two-day knowledge-sharing and brainstorming session. A research process for development of a multimodal travel forecasting model resulted from the meeting. This report is the specification of two prototype surveys to collect information that will be necessary for the development of the model. An establishment survey of visitors and employees is specified to obtain data on passenger flows. An establishment survey of commodity flows is also recommended. The geographic location, sample design, sample selection, and expected statistical accuracy are documented. Recommendations are presented for the classification of commodities for forecasting purposes.
