Abstract:The FAA has available hundreds of computer testing centers nationwide. These testing centers offer the full range of airman knowledge tests. Refer to appendix 1 in this guide for a list of computer testing designees. This knowledge test guide was developed to be used by applicants preparing to take the following knowledge tests on the computer: Aviation Mechanic General
Aviation Mechanic Airframe Aviation Mechanic Powerplant What is required to become a skilled and effective airframe and powerplant (A & P) aviation mechanic? Although some individuals possess more knowledge and skills than others, no one is born a natural aviation mechanic. A competent aviation mechanic becomes so through study, hard work, and experience. This guide is not offered as a quick and easy way to obtain the necessary information for passing the knowledge tests. There is no quick and easy way to obtain the background of experience, knowledge, and skill needed to safely and effectively maintain either vintage or modern, highly complex aircraft. Rather, the intent of this guide is to define and narrow the field of study, as much as possible, to the required knowledge areas for obtaining an aviation mechanic certificate.
The questions on the aviation mechanic tests pertain to FAA regulations, and a wide variety of aircraft, powerplants, and systems. The information contained in the questions must never take precedence over specific information furnished by a manufacturer in the maintenance of an aircraft
