Abstract:This General Accounting Office report examines (1) the outcomes of the Federal
Aviation Administration's (FAA) inspection process in fiscal years 1990 through
1996 and how this process could be strengthened to better assess and encourage
compliance with aviation safety and security regulations and (2) the outcomes
of FAA's enforcement process during this period and how this process could be
strengthened to better address potential violations of aviation safety and
security regulations. This report contains recommendations to the Secretary of
Transportation for improving FAA's enforcement of aviation safety and security
regulations. 128p.
