Abstract:

This article describes a pilot high-solids digester (HSD) plant for use in American Samoa. The American Samoa is highly dependent on imported fuel. At the same time, the local tuna canneries produce large amounts of waste materials. The HSD program will turn the fisheries waste into a biogas fuel and a compost that can be used to enrich the local volcanic soil.
