Abstract:This paper summarizes the economic benefits that are anticipated to flow from
the FAA's Flight 2000 operational demonstration program. This quick assessment
is based on the Flight 2000 Initial Program Plan, dated July 16, 1997. The
analysis shows there are sufficient economic merits to justify the projected
investment of $390 million outlines in the plan. In particular, the safety
benefits to users and potential cost avoidance are estimated to range between
$2.6 and $6.6 billion as part of the overall NAS (National Airspace System)
modernization effort. 11p.
