Abstract:The "National Transportation Statistics" (NTS) Annual Report is a compendium of selected national transportation, and transportation-related energy data from a wide variety of government and private sources. The data illustrate transportation activity for the major transportation modes - air, automobile, bus, truck, local transit, rail, water, and pipeline. Basic descriptors such as operating revenues and expenses, number of vehicles and employees, vehicle- and passenger-miles, and passenger and freight operations, are included. Transportation trends in performance, safety, and motor vehicle sales, production, and costs are also presented. Supplementary sections include Transportation and the Economy; Energy in Transportation which is divided into Energy Consumption, Energy Intensiveness, Energy Transport, and Energy Supply and Demand; and 1990 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey (NPTS). In this edition, the data cover the period 1980 through 1990/1991, and in some instances, extend back to 1955.
